Irvine Station was dedicated on May 16, 1990, thus restoring railroad service to Irvine for the first time since 1947. The pedestrian bridge opened in 2001. Today Irvine Station is the forth busiest Amtrak station in California and 17th in the United States. A new four level parking structure was built in 2008. The station has two side platforms for the two track lines, each have five blue bus stop shelters that have benches and provide the shelter on the platforms. The platforms are connected by an unenclosed pedestrian overpass with staircase and elevator access
